If you are browsing through this website, you are no doubt contemplating joining the thousands of people who have given up the traditional bricks and mortar and have taken to the freedom of the open road and are now living full time in their American Motorhomes.

So what is the difference?

Firstly, providing the funds are in place, it is the ability to be in England today and Spain tomorrow.  In doing so, it is also the ease of being able to take your entire home with you.

American Motorhomes are Penthouses on wheels.  They are luxuriously appointed and equipped ready to travel.

You don’t even need a prebooked place to stay, although it is always better to travel during daylight and source campsites throughout Europe to stay at overnight.  It is also possible to use Service Stations or a roadside pull in, to break up your journey.

A Place In The Sun

Camping Playa Paraíso

Just a 5 minute drive to the south of Benidorm, is a little village called Playa Paraiso.

By the time you read this article Jacinto will have opened the doors on Camping Playa Paraiso, it is a Traditional Spanish Site, located smack on the beach.

Seventy five pitches will be put aside for caravans and smaller Motorhomes and twenty five pitches will be developed for the American RVs.

The site is easily accessed from the main road, there is an extensive reception area, large swimming pool with loungers, pool bar, well stocked shop , fully equipped launderette etc.

As you drive past this area, the site opens up to the gentle waves and the sound of the Mediterranean crashing on the shore.

I will be the fist to admit that during the first few months of operation, extensive building works will be carrying on, but it is hoped that by the time summer approaches most of the refurbishment work will have been completed.

Almafra

Almafra must be the jewel in the crown of all Spanish camp resorts. It opened just twelve months ago, very quietly, but is now gaining in popularity as more people discover its location.

The camp is situated slightly to the north of Benidorm on the N332. The centre of Benidorm can be reached by a 10 minute journey by car or train and for the more active of you; it is a one hour walk away.

The area is very quiet and if that is what you are looking for there are many small coves and beach side tapas bars as you continue north along Benidorm’s beautiful coast line.

You approach the site from the AP7 just to the east of Benidorm at intersection 65. Follow the road down to the first island turning left onto the 332 heading towards Altea. Continue along the 332 for approximately 3 miles and you will then see the site on your left hand side. Turn left at the road junction crossing the railway line and then left again into the site. Approach the site via the vast tarmac road and perfectly elegant reception area and after checking in, you are given access cards to allow you through the security gates. Continue along the tarmac roads until you arrive at your allocated pitch. All pitches are hard standing and fully serviced.

The greenery is now beginning to take shape and there are various dedicated parking areas that are correctly policed.

Monica is your first point of contact at the resort. Her understanding of the English language is fantastic and she is very helpful. We found all of the staff to be very courteous and very obliging.

Once you have settled in it is time to commence your tour. You will find a massive leisure complex with tennis courts, indoor and outdoor swimming pool, fitness gym and various other activities available so that you can do as much, or as little, as you choose.

The reception area houses an extensive onsite shop, a fantastic cafeteria and meeting area for day time relaxation and for ordering drinks to enjoy around the swimming pool.
To finish the day off in style there is a superb on site bar and restaurant.

There are also ample laundrette facilities, toilets and showers located in various areas throughout the resort. These facilities are kept in an outstanding condition at all times.

Itchy Feet are proud and privileged to be associated with this development and although it may not be the cheapest site in and around Spain, Almafra is totally out of this world.
